Every year the Curry Clan gathers at a lake in Texas for a family reunion. We always have so much fun! This year, this was our one family Vacation and we made a lot of good memories! We stayed at Rock Creek on Possum Kingdom Lake.
We recently bought a Honda Odyssey mini-van and it made the trip SO MUCH EASIER! We’ve never had a DVD player on car trips before and it was quite nice. The kids watched about 4 videos on the 5 hour drive to the lake. There were definitely periods that Foster got grumpy and just wanted OUT of his carseat- who could blame him? But for the most part, the kids had fun together. Emma requested that we move their captain seats close together as seen in the picture below so that they could share toys, books, and snacks.
As soon as we go to the lake and unpacked we were SO HOT, that we just wanted to jump into the lake! We quickly changed into our swimsuits, lathered up in sunscreen, and headed down to the beach. We had a great sandy beach all to ourselves this year which was great for the kids. However, Foster wasn’t to sure about the whole lake thing. He cried a lot, a lot, a lot. I don’t think he likes being hot, and I don’t think he likes the bright sun. I have a feeling next year will be better. :) At least he looked adorable in his beach-ware!
Now this little girl LOVED the lake- she could not get enough of it and cried every time we had to get out of the water. She’s a little fish, just like her Mommy.
You won’t see many pictures of Foster IN the water. He preferred to observe from the sidelines or blow bubbles or throw rocks from the shore. He looks so smothered in this life jacket! Safety first! :)
Foster LOVES blowing bubbles- actually he can’t actually blow them but he just pretends. I couldn’t pick a favorite picture here so I just posted all of them. He looks like a big boy in these pictures- I can’t believe he’s closer to 2 years old than 1 year old. :(
Here is our niece/cousin Lylah. Isn’t she just adorable?
Here’s our beach area- the kids had a blast. The water was luke-warm but still cooled us off a bit.
Foster tried to get in our car like this but I didn’t let him. We stripped the swimsuit off before letting him ride in the car to the cabin!
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Aunt Judy for giving Emma the gift of Princess Camp this summer! Emma had been looking forward to this week all summer.
From July 11th-July 15th Emma got to attend Princess Camp at her Dance Studio in the mornings from 9:30-12:00. Each day they did crafts, dancing, singing, and more. This was a great time for Emma to get out of the house and do something fun also a good opportunity for me to do some things alone with Foster (and get a few chores done around the house!)
Here are some of the girls on the last day.
Princess Ariel visited on the last day. Here she is reading a book to the girls. She also talked to them about being a Princess, answered questions, and then took individual pictures with each of the girls. It was so sweet to see how excited the girls were to meet her.
Emma looks a little bit nervous here!
Mommy got to come for a Mommy/Daughter tea party on the last day- it was so fun!
The girls performed two dances for the Moms- one Princess Dance and one “Crazy dance.” Emma LOVED the crazy dance!
And here are the two videos from the dances… The first dance was an elegant ballet dance to a Princess song. I laugh every time I watch this. Emma has her tongue out the majority of the dance and just appears to be so uncomfortable!
The 2nd song was a fun song “Crazy.” You can tell that Emma really loved this one. She loves to shake her hips- I’m not sure what that says about her! During the last part they were supposed to go “crazy” and do anything they wanted. She just jumped the whole time- this girl loves to jump!
Next year Emma will be taking a ballet/jazz combo class and I think she’s really going to love the fast pace of jazz. ;)
July 8th was Cow Appreciation Day- everyone knew that, right? Robin is such a good Daddy. We had planned to go to Chick Fil A for Cow Appreciation Night as a family but I ended up working an extra shift. He took them by himself anyway! Now that’s dedication! Chick-Fil-A gave out free chicken sandwich or nugget meals to everyone who came dressed as a cow. I helped Robin with the costumes- we got these black stickers from Chick-Fil-A to put on white shirts and Emma wore a black and white dot dress that she had. He even drew little black noses on all of them. Cute cute cute, and probably a little crazy to be willing to do this. We are willing to do just about anything for free Chick-Fil-A!
Wow, I was really behind on blogging! Just realized I never posted the pics from our second 4th of July party on the actual 4th. We had my family over to our house for a cookout in our backyard. It was pretty low-key but a ton of fun! We thought it was so hot but knowing now what 110 degrees feels like, that night was mild!
Emma LOVES Watermelon…
Our backyard has been a huge project for us and we still have a long way to go. It really is a great backyard for our kids with a lot of potential but definitely needed some TLC. We’re so thankful for my brother Brandon’s hard work to remove all of the leaves and acorns, mowing, edging, and laying fescue seed. Unfortunately, the 110 degree heat has done a number on the poor grass but the yard is definitely in much better shape than it was. We have lots of plans in the future for the covered porch, the gazebo, patio, fence, etc.
Firing up the grill for the first time this summer… the burgers and brats were very yummy!
Not a bad spread of food: burgers, brats, chips, Nana’s famous baked beans, watermelon, and my Grandma’s famous strawberry ice cream for dessert!
After chowing down we all piled in our Odyssey and headed to the hill at 61st and Sheridan to watch fireworks. We just parked on the hill and got to watch about 3 different fireworks show. This was a great way to miss the crowds!
Foster was so tired but definitely stayed awake through the fireworks- he kept shouting, “Boooo, fireworks…” he wanted to make sure Uncle Boom saw the fireworks. He is in LOVE with Uncle Boom
